Withdrawal from the University
Students are encouraged to meet with the Office of Financial Aid to review financial ramifications before withdrawing. Upon deciding to withdraw, the student must meet with (preferred) or otherwise contact the Assistant Academic Dean to officially begin the withdrawal process. The Assistant Academic Dean will notify the Office of Financial Aid so that calculations for returning financial aid funds can be completed as required by the Higher Education Act. Calculations are independent from the University's Tuition Refund Policy.

Satisfactory Academic Progress
Satisfactory Academic Progress (SAP) is the term used to define successful completion of coursework to maintain eligibility for financial aid. SAP is evaluated annually at the conclusion of spring semester or after the second semester of attendance whichever occurs first. The following components are measured to determine whether the student is meeting SAP standards: (1) qualitative, (2) quantitative, and (3) maximum timeframe. These three standards are briefly described respectively as: (1) cumulative grade point average of at least 2.50, (2) The ratio of earned credit hour to attempted credit hours must be 67% or higher, (3) A maximum of seven years for a maximum 126 attempted credit hours. Verification is a review process in which the Financial Aid Office confirms the accuracy of various data elements reported on the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). During the verification process the student is required to submit documentation to confirm information provided on the FAFSA. An applicant is notified, typically, 10-14 business days from the date the FAFSA is received at CUA, but not before March 15. Participation in the verification process is not optional unless a student declines to use any federal student aid funds. The review of documents may take up to 10 business days, or longer if additional nonstandard documentation is required. The typical documents include confirmation of family size, the number of family enrolled in school, and income. Income is most often verified by the student using the IRS Data Retrieval Tool at the time the FAFSA is completed.
