ALumni PanelistsThe Black Law Students Association (BLSA) at Catholic Law recently organized an engaging panel discussion titled Beyond Traditional Practice: JD-Advantage Careers. Moderated by BLSA President Jasmine Rountree, the event featured three distinguished alumni: John Polanin '83, Director of the Corporate Responsibility and Compliance Program; Tiffany Duncan '15, Information Technology Specialist at the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation; and Rachel DuFault '02, Senior Content Analyst at Bloomberg Industry Group. The panelists shared insights into their unique career paths, highlighting the diverse opportunities available to those with a Juris Doctor degree outside of traditional legal practice.

Throughout the discussion, the panelists emphasized the importance of persuasive legal writing, the ability to analyze complex issues while valuing expert input, and the growing necessity of understanding technology in the workplace. They reflected on how moot court during law school provided a valuable platform to practice and refine analytical skills, helping them build confidence in advocacy and public speaking. The conversation concluded with a focus on mentorship, underscoring the value of both seeking guidance from experienced professionals and, later in one’s career, becoming a mentor to others. The event provided attendees with valuable perspectives on leveraging their legal education in innovative and impactful ways.
