Mac Dickerson proudly brought home Second Place in the 2026 Judicial Clerkship Opinion Writing competition, a highlight of the prestigious Judicial Clerkship Opinion Writing Conference (JCOW). As a Cornell University graduate (Class of 2022) and a current student at the University of California, Berkeley, School of Law, set to graduate in May 2026. The competition provided an incredible opportunity to showcase his skills and connect with members of the judiciary.
Looking ahead to his clerkship with Judge Drozd in the Eastern District of California in Sacramento, Mac reflected on the lessons he gained at the conference. “It was eye-opening to hear the different perspectives from judges on what makes a good clerk,” he shared. “The small group breakout sessions were especially helpful in understanding how judges think about writing opinions.” These insights have inspired him to focus on sharpening his skills to ensure success in his upcoming role.
Mac also expressed deep gratitude to those who supported him throughout the experience. “I’d like to thank Judge Davis for her helpful feedback on my draft opinion and during the breakout session,” he said. He also extended thanks to A.G. Harmon, Associate Dean of Bench and Bar Programs, and the team at Catholic University for organizing such a meaningful event.
