3rd Annual Disability Rights and Inclusion ConferenceOn Thursday, March 12, Professor Lucia Silecchia of Catholic Law spoke at the 3rd Annual Disability Rights and Inclusion Conference at Touro Law School in New York. Her presentation, titled The Hidden Treasure of Spiritual Care: A Forgotten Right of Persons with Disabilities, highlighted a critical gap in major legal frameworks, such as the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities, which often overlook the right to spiritual care and religious exercise for individuals with disabilities. Professor Silecchia emphasized the importance of addressing this oversight and proposed that faith communities play a pivotal role in bridging the gap left by existing legal protections, ensuring equal access to spiritual and religious support for all.
