Dena Feeney

It is with deep sadness that we share the passing of Dena Feeney (Catholic Law Class of 1963), a devoted alumna, longtime member of the Board of Visitors, and former president of the University’s Alumni Association.

Dena was a trailblazer in the truest sense: she was the only woman enrolled at Catholic Law when she began her legal studies—a distinction she carried with confidence, grit, and unmistakable resolve. Anyone who had the good fortune to meet her knew it instantly: Dena was a force of nature. She spoke her mind freely and loudly when needed, always with conviction and an irrepressible spirit.

Her professional life mirrored that same pioneering path. She began her career as an estate tax attorney with the IRS, where she was again the only woman examiner. She later served as a vice president of an insurance company before entering private practice, where she built a respected career in trusts and estates. Though Dena traveled widely, Catholic University was always home. She returned often, remained deeply connected, and gave generously of her time, leadership, and loyalty to this community.

She will be deeply missed by Catholic Law and by all who were fortunate enough to know her.

Dena’s funeral Mass will be held on Monday, January 12, at 10:00 a.m. in the Crypt Church of the Basilica of the National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception, with a viewing from 9:00 to 10:00 a.m.
