Professor Mark RienziProfessor Mark Rienzi, Co-Director of Catholic Law's Center for Religious Liberty, spoke at the inaugural meeting of the Department of Justice’s Religious Liberty Commission in Washington, D.C. He joined a group of speakers to explore why the Founders embedded religious freedom in our laws, how the Supreme Court has interpreted these rights over time—particularly since the mid-20th century—and what the separation of church and state truly means. During his remarks, Rienzi emphasized the fundamental importance of religious freedom, stating, “Religious liberty is thus foundational. It protects the broader architecture of liberty and human dignity for everyone—religious or not.”
