In a high-profile case that could reshape legal protections for tech companies, Catholic Law's
Professor Mary Graw Leary was quoted by the
BBC regarding a lawsuit filed in Los Angeles Superior Court. The case involves a 19-year-old woman, identified as KGM, who claims that social media platforms' algorithm designs left her addicted and harmed her mental health. This lawsuit is among the first of many expected to challenge the legal shield tech firms have long relied on to avoid accountability in the U.S. "A lot of what these companies have been trying to shield from the public is likely going to be aired in court," Leary remarked, highlighting the potential for unprecedented transparency in the tech industry.
