L to R: Andrew Smith, Samantha Popper, Hermela Aregawi, and Matthew Drauschak
Last semester, the National Mock Trial Team competed at the Buffalo Niagara Mock Trial Competition, where 26 law schools from across the country gathered for a highly competitive tournament. Catholic Law was awarded Most Professional Team, a recognition that speaks not only to performance, but to character.
The team was comprised of four 2L students in their very first mock trial tournament: Hermela Aregawi, Matthew Drauschak, Samantha Popper, and Andrew Smith. Reflecting on the experience, team member Andrew Smith shared, “I’ve almost forgotten the nerves I had before the first trial, but I’ll never forget the fun we had in Buffalo fighting as a team.”
“As a director, there is no greater pride than seeing students uphold the highest standards of professionalism while advocating zealously in the courtroom,” said Lindsey Cloud, Director of the National Mock Trial Team. “This award reflects the integrity, teamwork, and respect for the legal process that define our program. I could not be prouder of this team.”
The National Mock Trial Team continues to emphasize excellence in advocacy alongside ethics and professionalism - values that remain central to both the program and the practice of law.
