Catholic Law's Professor Soledad Bertelsen participated in the panel “New Voices in International Human Rights Law” at the 2026 AALS Annual Meeting in New Orleans, Louisiana. Her presentation, titled “The invisible interested third-parties in the Inter-American system”, explores the possibility of granting more participation to non-state actors that have an interest different from the victim in the proceedings before the Inter-American Commission and Court. She explained that granting meaningful participation to these actors would help international bodies receive evidence and legal arguments not presented by the victims or the states. More importantly, early involvement of third parties would help secure the cooperation needed to implement the decisions .
