The Judge Kathryn J. DuFour Law Library at Catholic University has unveiled a new virtual exhibit celebrating the remarkable career of Professor Emeritus Harvey L. Zuckman. Titled "I've Never Met an Unhappy Communications Lawyer," the exhibit was curated by Kristina Martinez, Assistant Director of Research Services, and John Ruela, Resources & Services Assistant. Professor Zuckman, who joined the Columbus School of Law faculty in 1970 and retired in 2005, left an indelible mark on the field of communications law. He founded the Institute for Communications Law Studies—now known as the Law and Technology Institute—and served as its director for over two decades. Under his leadership, the Institute became a hub for innovation and scholarship, producing the CommLaw Conspectus journal, which continues today as the Journal of Law and Technology.
The exhibit showcases Professor Zuckman’s extensive contributions to legal education and the communications law field. Visitors can explore items from his personal collection, including highlights from his work with the Institute, editions of CommLaw Conspectus, and his writings for Judicial Notice, the student newspaper. The display also features awards and memorabilia that reflect his dedication to teaching and mentorship. Among his many achievements, Professor Zuckman was instrumental in launching the National Telecommunications Moot Court Competition, a premier event in communications law that remains a cornerstone of Catholic Law’s partnership with the Federal Communications Bar Association. This tribute captures the essence of a career defined by leadership, innovation, and a passion for inspiring future generations of legal professionals.
