Separation of Powers Bootcamp

This past week the Separation of Powers Institute (SPI) hosted its inaugural Separation of Powers Bootcamp at Catholic Law in Washington, D.C.

Designed as an intensive educational experience, the bootcamp was geared toward recent law school graduates preparing for judicial clerkships. The event drew an impressive cohort of participants from across the country, including graduates of Harvard Law School, Yale Law School, and the University of Virginia School of Law, among other institutions.

Professor Chad Squitieri Professor Natalie Schmidt

The bootcamp featured a series of lectures led by prominent law professors and legal practitioners specializing in administrative law and the constitutional separation of powers. Lecture topics covered methods of statutory interpretation, modes and judicial review of agency action, the nondelegation and major questions doctrines, agency adjudication, administrative remedies, and Presidential appointment and removal. Professor Chad Squitieri, who serves as Director of SPI, and Professor Natalie Schmidt, who serves as a fellow at SPI, welcomed attendees to the event with the first two lectures.

Founded by Professor Jennifer Mascott, SPI serves as a hub for academic research and debate on legal and constitutional questions related to the roles and functions of the three federal branches of government within the U.S. constitutional system. To learn more about SPI, visit spi.law.edu.
