HALT StaffNational Homelessness Law Center Staff and Board Members

Jed Barton, an incoming Catholic Law evening student and Pro Bono Coordinator at the National Homelessness Law Center (NHLC), recently assisted in a Lunch and Learn event hosted by NHLC at the law firm Akin Gump. Sponsored by the Homelessness Action Legal Team (HALT), the event brought together a diverse group of attendees, including law firms, law schools, students, national organizations, and legal aid attorneys. The focus of the session was on state constitutional challenges to the criminalization of homelessness, a pressing issue in today’s legal landscape. Jed extended an invitation to the Catholic Law career office to attend, and they were thrilled to see an incoming evening student in action.

Participants had the opportunity to hear from pro bono attorneys and Law Center staff actively engaged in these pivotal cases, exploring their potential impact and influence. This event is part of an ongoing quarterly series organized by the Law Center and HALT to foster collaboration and dialogue on critical legal issues.

Catholic Law proudly celebrates the achievements of its incoming day and evening students and looks forward to welcoming the classes of 2028 and 2029 this fall. Incoming students passionate about pro bono work and public interest law are encouraged to connect with the career office’s Associate Director for Pro Bono and Public Interest Career Development at jobs@cua.edu.
