The Catholic University of America and the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops hosted the Second Annual Immigration Conference, “Rethinking Migration Narratives – Catholic Immigration Advocacy in 2025 and Beyond,” from March 3-5, 2025. Held at CUA’s Pryzbyla Center, the event examined the power of migration narratives in shaping public opinion and policy, offering Catholic perspectives as alternatives to divisive rhetoric.

Bishop Evelio Menjivar Ayala discussionThe conference began with a reception and networking session on March 3, featuring a discussion with Bishop Evelio Menjivar Ayala and other leaders on the topic of the impact of immigration narratives on the ground. On March 4, panels addressed the historical and contemporary impact of migration narratives, their role in policymaking, and Catholic Social Teaching’s influence on immigration advocacy. Keynote speaker Bishop Mark Seitz highlighted the Church’s commitment to migrant dignity and balanced border policies.

The event culminated on March 5 with an Advocacy Day on Capitol Hill organized by the Migration and Refugee Services Office of the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops, urging passage of legislation providing protection to undocumented immigrants brought to the U.S. as children (Dreamers).
