On July 28th, students from the Columbus Community Legal Services (CCLS) clinic descended upon the VA Medical Center in Northwest DC to partake in a free veteran resource fair, organized by the Mayor's Office of Veteran Affairs. The students, in partnership with DC Law Students in Court and supervised by Professor Michael McGonnigal, worked to address concerns of the veteran community. Specifically, CCLS students processed expungement requests for dozens of veterans, most of whose low-level crimes have impacted their ability to sustain employment. Many of the veterans who came to the clinic were homeless, and were in dire need of support. CCLS has a long-standing commitment of giving back to the community, and enjoyed the opportunity to partner with both local and federal veteran affairs agencies.
