  • Upon graduation from Notre Dame's law school in 1978, Kathryn Kelly entered private practice in Washington, D.C. During her twelve years with Jones, Day and Crowell & Moring, she practiced principally in the areas of product liability, health care, and employment discrimination, managing complex litigation, counseling concerning risk-management and regulatory compliance, and providing advice on legislative issues. During this time, her lecturing in CLE courses and work as a staffing partner whetted her interest in teaching. In 1991, she resigned her law firm partnership and joined the faculty.

Professor Kelly is one of three co-authors of the Prosser, Wade, and Schwartz Torts casebook and also has written in the areas of product liability, health care, complex litigation, and legal education. She has testified before the Senate Judiciary Committee, the Consumer Subcommittee of the Senate Committee on Commerce, Science and Transportation, and the U.S. Civil Rights Commission on products liability and AIDS issues and has served as an arbitrator for the Maryland Health Claims Arbitration Board.
