Andrea De La Camara

Why did you choose to go to law school?

I chose to go to law school because I was searching for a profession where I could constantly learn for the rest of my career and use my knowledge to help people. I have always enjoyed working with people and listening to their stories, as well as research and writing. I felt that law school was a natural fit and checked many of the things I was searching for in a future career.

Why Catholic Law? (prior to attending)

I wanted to attend law school in Washington, DC.

What externships or other practical experiences did you have while at Catholic Law?

Andrea De La CamaraWhile at Catholic Law I participated in the International Business and Trade Summer Law program in Poland where I studied abroad and completed an externship with PwC. During my time in Poland, I had the opportunity to take courses alongside European law students, learn how attorneys in other countries conduct business, and make some great friends. I also had an internship with the Office of General Counsel at The Catholic University of America where I learned the breadth of legal questions that different stakeholders have.

What experiences at Catholic Law were highlights for you?

Participating in the Immigration and Refugee Advocacy Clinic as a student attorney has been a highlight for me. I had the opportunity to work on an asylum trial with a real client during my last semester of law school. Our Supervisor, Jocelyn Dyer; another student, Anthony Rowe; and I all prepared for the trial. I was tasked with doing the direct examination and redirect after the cross examination. We were all ecstatic when we won asylum for our client. Being able to use the knowledge and training I received here to make a positive impact in someone's life was the most rewarding experience.

What are your plans after graduation?

After graduation I have accepted a position at a law firm in Washington, DC.

Why Catholic Law now?

woking in the clinicCatholic Law has many benefits. It's a school where you get as much out of your experience as you put into it. I liked that CUA is a small enough environment that my professors and classmates were able to get to know me. The professors here are very dedicated to the students and are always willing to take time out of their schedule to help you learn the concepts and succeed. I also liked that it's a school where our classmates help each other.
