Students for Public Interest Law

About Us

Students for Public Interest Law (SPIL), founded in 1989, SPIL was organized to further our law school's commitment to providing legal services in the public interest sector.

SPIL organizes and participates in numerous community service and pro bono activities to provide students with experience in public interest law.

The organization’s biggest event is the Annual SPIL Live and Silent Auction  held in the spring semester. Each year, the SPIL Auction raises money to provide summer stipends to students who take unpaid legal positions in the public interest sector. Last year’s auction raised approximately $18,000, with an additional $10,000 from the Weismann Family's generous matching contribution, awarding 13 summer stipends for students in public interest. Last year’s auction was held on February 2, 2018. Please join us this year for what will be a great event for a worthy cause. Theme and date TBA.

Please contact our 2018-2019 President Brittany McNurlin or Co-Vice Presidents Maribeth Guarino  and Casey Wiggins with any questions or comments.
