CUA Law announces Pope Francis Scholarship Fund to Benefit Students

Although Pope Francis’s visit to the United States and to the CUA campus has come to an end, the excitement and call to action surrounding his time here continues.  To commemorate this historic event, the Law School continues to grow its new scholarship initiative – The Pope Francis Scholarship Fund.  Pope Francis shared St. Junipero Serra’s motto which inspired his life and work, siempre adelante! (keep moving forward!) Please consider giving to the Pope Francis Scholarship fund to help embody this message and move the Law School forward.  To do so, simply click here.  Thank you for your support.

DC Bar Pro Bono Program's Brief Advice and Referral Clinic

The Columbus School of Law is committed to staffing the DC Bar Pro Bono Program’s Brief Advice and Referral Clinic on Saturday, November 14.  At the Clinic, pro bono attorneys meet with DC residents to discuss the legal issues they face, provide brief advice and make any needed referrals.  No particular substantive expertise is required – attorneys with the requisite background and reference guides are on hand for volunteers to consult.  Note that attorney volunteers must be barred in DC (active or inactive), have an application pending or be employed by a federal agency and have clearance from the ethics office

This is an excellent opportunity to provide discrete, time-limited pro bono assistance with no future obligation.  It is also a wonderful way to not only benefit the DC community but also inspire CUA Law students.  For each volunteer attorney we send, we’re permitted to send a law student volunteer, as well.  We are currently the only law school offered a designated space in these clinics, and this is a very popular project among our students.

Date & Time:                     Saturday, November 14
9:30 - 10:00AM                  Volunteer Orientation
10:00AM – noon               Clinic Open for Advice and Referrals
12:30 - 1:00PM                   Last referral session usually finished

Location: Bread for the City, NW location (1525 7th Street, NW, Washington, D.C. ); 3 blocks south of the Shaw-Howard Metro station.

To register, please email Jennifer Tschirch, CUA Law Pro Bono Coordinator
