A newsletter for the students of the Columbus School of Law - February 2018
Dean Daniel F. Attridge
A letter from Dean Daniel F. Attridge:

Dear CUA Law Students,

Our new spring 2018 semester began on January 8.  Our classes, programs, and activities are back in full swing.  This is a brief report on what’s been happening and what’s coming up:

1.  Resignation as Dean.  I have notified CUA President John Garvey that I intend to resign as dean of the Law School as of July 31, 2018.  It has been a privilege for me to serve as dean since February 1, 2013.  Working together, the many members of the Law School community have successfully faced unprecedented challenges over the past five years, and we have made many improvements to aid the high quality of the legal education we offer.  We can be proud of our many shared accomplishments, including the numerous accolades our school has received.

I have particularly enjoyed the opportunity to get to know and work closely with many of you and other members of our Law School community.  You are a wonderful group of people who have greatly enriched my life.  Your ongoing commitment to the Law School is a major reason to be optimistic about the future of the school.  While I will be stepping down as dean, I look forward to continuing my CUA Law affiliation as a tenured member of the faculty.  I also intend to pursue other interests and devote more time to personal matters, especially with my family. The University will be appointing a committee to conduct a national search to select my successor.  I will be cooperating as may be requested to assure a smooth transition. Thank you for the opportunity to work with you while serving as dean.

2.  ABA Reaccrediation.  We are very pleased that the American Bar Association has granted reaccreditation to our Law School.  After a 20-month strict scrutiny review, during a period in which the ABA took adverse action against some other law schools, the Accreditation Committee decided to continue our approval without conditions or reservations.  Our heartfelt thanks go out to all of the faculty, staff, students, and alumni who contributed to this favorable outcome.
