Dean Designate Daniel F. Attridge
A letter from Dean Daniel F. Attridge:

Dear CUA Law Family and Friends,

April has been an extraordinarily busy month at CUA Law.  With classes ending on April 29, final examinations from May 1 to 11, and graduation set for May 24, we have been devoting an enormous amount of time and energy to the crescendo of events winding up the current semester and academic year.  April is also a time for major planning efforts for the year to come -- both for our students, as they get ready for their summer experiences and next fall, and for our faculty and staff, as we prepare for next year and a new class of students.  This is a brief report on some of our many activities during the month:
1.  Important Curriculum ChangesAfter months of intense study, consultation, and debate, our Faculty approved a number of important changes to the Law School's first-year and upper-division curriculum.  The new curriculum is designed to achieve three main goals.  It aims to strengthen our first-year doctrinal courses by expanding credit hours for three courses, making two courses year-long, and adding a practical element to the doctrinal focus of these courses.  In subsequent years, the changes support the development of practice-area concentrations to enable students who wish to specialize in selected substantive areas to acquire relevant expertise.  And, the reforms emphasize training that will help graduates transition to the real world of practice. Fundraiser Nets More Than $65,000 for the Law School

A fundraiser honoring Catholic University Law School’s new Dean Daniel F. Attridge raised $65,730.00 dollars on April 11th.  The contributions will support the law school’s general student scholarship fund.

A group of approximately 70 people attended the rooftop reception and dinner at Fiola, a highly-regarded restaurant on Pennsylvania Avenue. The warm and windy evening provided an ideal backdrop for the event, as did the sweeping view in every direction of the nation’s capital.

Guests included members of the law school’s Board of Visitors, who participated in the biannual meeting at the law school the following day; distinguished law school alumni; and a number of the dean’s family members, friends and colleagues from Kirkland & Ellis, the law firm where he spent nearly his entire career.

“We are very appreciative of the generosity of our law school’s supporters,” said Dean Attridge. “CUA Law is a special place whose talented students will directly benefit from the increase to our scholarship fund made possible by our guests.”

Law Clinic Newsletter

In the second installment of our clinic e-newsletter, we are excited to report on the efforts of our faculty to expand and build upon the opportunities for our students to gain a comprehensive range of skills training in order to prepare them for their careers as practicing lawyers. Please click here to read about the expansion of CUA’s Innocence Project and to learn more about the recent work of our clinic faculty in our continuing efforts to provide our students with effective tools and skills to transition them to practice, while also helping to fill the gap in the need for legal services among the city’s low-income community.
