On October 23, 2015, CUA Law Street Law members Kim Ulan (3L), Homer Richards (3L), and Arthur Osueke (2L)  took their Archbishop Carroll High School students to the Newseum to broaden their understanding of the First Amendment. The visit began with a lecture on modern First Amendment issues by Charles Haynes, Vice President of the Newseum Institute / Religious Freedom Center and Senior Scholar at the First Amendment Center. They were then given a guided tour of the Newseum by Jackie Haughom (2L), which was followed by a luncheon catered by Chef Wolfgang Puck. The students enjoyed their trip and appreciated the opportunity to visit the Newseum.

Fieldtrips like this one, enhance the work the Street Law members bring to Archbishop Carroll High School’s “Law and Social Justice” course. Through lesson planning, teaching, and mock trial coaching, Street Law members must consider the legal knowledge they gain in the law school classrooms in new ways, while providing invaluable mentorship to the high school students they serve.
