International Human Rights Summer Law Program

Rome, Italy

May 18--June 8, 2013

streetThank you for your interest in Catholic University’s International Human Rights Summer Law Program in Rome, Italy!   This new program enjoyed its inaugural year in 2011, and we are currently planning for our second offering of the program for May – June, 2013.

This program allows students to earn three or four credits over a concentrated three-week program of study.  The “Eternal City” is home to the Holy See, a major international advocate for human rights and provider of humanitarian relief throughout the world.  It is also the headquarters Food and Agricultural Organization of the United Nations, as well as other legal and humanitarian institutions of interest to those studying human rights.  In addition, Rome’s historical, religious, cultural, and legal significance make it a perfect setting for an intense study of human rights law.

Because the program is concentrated in three weeks, it is completed in the second week of June.  This allows students to pursue summer employment after the program is over. During the three-week session, students will be able to select from a group of courses which focuses on different aspects of human rights law.  The course selections include existing offerings in Catholic University’s curriculum, as well as courses designed specifically for this program.  Formal study will be supplemented with planned visits to local legal institutions and organizations, as well as the opportunity to explore the city of Rome and enjoy some of Italy’s religious, cultural, and historic treasures.
