Our fall 2016 semester has reached a successful conclusion. Our students have taken their final exams and turned in their final papers. Our faculty members are busy grading all of this work, while preparing for the next semester. We are all ready to enjoy the Christmas holiday break. Our new spring 2017 semester will begin on January 9. This is a brief report on what’s been happening and what’s coming up:
1. Christmas. On behalf of all of us at CUA Law, we wish you a very Merry Christmas and a very Happy New Year. Or, if you do not celebrate Christmas, we wish you all the best in commemorating your own faith or other traditions at this time of year.
With the offer and acceptance of a position at the prestigious Division of Corporation Finance at the SEC, the ninth recipient of the Securities Law Program’s Certificate in May has again brought the Program's placement record to 100 percent by the end of the Fall term. This is the seventh time in the last eight years in which the Program has fulfilled this record.
The other graduating students accepted offers by June at some major firms, FINRA, and other government agencies. Professor David Lipton, Program Director, credits the Program’s placement record to the talent of the Program’s adjuncts; the dedication and generous willingness of the alumni to lend a hand; and the tenaciousness confidence of graduates in seeking positions in the industry.
The Alumni Office is seeking alumni to assist current first-year students in the form of Mentors and Advisors. Please consider serving as an alumni Mentor or Advisor. As alumni, you have much knowledge and insight to share with our students, and we greatly appreciate your assistance. Once again this year the Newseum will join the Law School in co-hosting the Siegenthaler-Sutherland Cup. We have 27 teams from all over the country coming to compete on March 24 and 25, 2017. This year's problem focuses on the application of the First Amendment to the off-campus digital speech of public high school students. It's a timely topic that raises fascinating legal questions. We need judges for the afternoon of Friday, March 25th. If you can help, please email moot Court Chancellor Yi Shen at firstname.lastname@example.org. Thank you!
Students for Public Interest Law (SPIL) would like to invite alumni to attend an evening of revelry and philanthropy at the 26th Annual SPIL Auction! The silent and live auction event will be held in the Atrium of the Law School on Friday, February 17, 2017 and the theme is Lights, Camera, Auction: A Night on the Red Carpet. Proceeds raised from the event will help provide stipends for students interning in public interest law over the summer. Please join us in what is sure to be a wonderful evening for a worthy cause. You can find more information about the event on our website (http://spil.law.edu/).
