CUA Law Firm Challenge to Kick-off in January

The Columbus School of Law ranks high on the lists of law schools whose graduates are included as 2014 Super Lawyers in Maryland, DC, and Virginia.   Super Lawyers is an annually updated, peer-nominated rating service of outstanding lawyers from more than 70 practice areas who have attained a high-degree of peer recognition and professional achievement.  This year, Super Lawyers has published a state-by-state list of law schools whose alumni were included in the highest numbers in each locale. CUA Law Moot Court Association is currently seeking judges for the 2015 National Telecom Competition

The CUA Law Moot Court Association is currently seeking judges for the 2015 National Telecom Competition.  The Competition will bring together five teams from five schools to argue telecom/copyright law issues.  The Competition rounds will take place on Friday, February 6, 2015 from 6:00pm-7:30pm, and Saturday, February 7, 2015 from 9:30am-12:30pm.  Please consider helping out the Association and the second- and third-year law students participating in the competition by judging these rounds.  Although we are currently seeking more volunteer judges for the Friday night rounds, we welcome interest for Saturday morning judges as well.

The Association will provide a copy of the problem, a bench brief describing the issues, and an extensive list of suggested questions for your use during the argument.  If you would like to sit on a panel, please contact Tina Petkova, Vice-Chancellor of Alumni Relations, at tinapetkova@gmail.com to sign up for the competition.

DC Bar Pro Bono Program’s Brief Advice and Referral Clinic on Saturday, April 11 at Bread for the City

The Columbus School of Law is committed to staffing the DC Bar Pro Bono Program’s Brief Advice and Referral Clinic on Saturday, April 11 at Bread for the City.  At the Clinic, pro bono attorneys meet with DC residents to discuss the legal issues they face, provide brief advice and make any needed referrals.  No particular substantive expertise is required – attorneys with the requisite background and reference guides are on hand for volunteers to consult.  Note that attorney volunteers must be barred in DC (active or inactive), have an application pending or be employed by a federal agency and have clearance from the ethics office.

For more information, please contact Jennifer Tschirch, CUA Law Pro Bono Coordinator or click here

CUA Law Mentor Program

For the third academic year in a row, we are seeking alumni to assist current and incoming students in the form of Mentors and Alumni Advisors.  Once again, each incoming 1L student, Day and Evening, will have the opportunity to be paired with an alumni mentor in a practice area that interests him or her. We are need alumni to fulfill this need. We also have a continual need for alumni to serve as general advisors. Alumni Advisors work with the Office of Career and Professional Development to advise students about practice areas, conduct mock interviews, discuss clerkships, etc. Interactions with students can be by phone or in person and normally require a commitment of no more than one-half hour on an as-needed basis.

Please consider serving in either one or both of these capacities. As alumni, you have much knowledge and insight to share with our students, and we greatly appreciate your assistance. Click here to learn more about these opportunities and to register as a mentor or advisor.

Thank You for
Your Support

THANK YOU to the 510 alumni and friends who made gifts to the Annual Fund by the end of the calendar year, December 31, 2014. Your gifts show your support for the quality legal education provided here at CUA Law. Your participation in the 2014-15 Annual Fund has helped greatly in advancing the Law School and will leave an indelible mark on the academic life of our current student body.

Gifts to the Annual Fund are powerful because they go to work immediately. Through your Annual Fund contribution, you provided funding for academic programs, clinics, sustained the students with financial aid and promoted faculty development. You benefited the entire Law School with your gift to the Annual Fund, and we thank you.

To those that have yet to make a gift, there is still time. The end of the fiscal year is approaching on April 30th and we still have a way to go to reach our goal. Your gift will help us to continue to provide quality academic programs for our students. If you choose to make a gift today please click here. Every gift counts and will have a profound effect on our students.

For questions about the Annual Fund please contact Annual Fund Coordinator Lauren Enlow.
