The Judge Kathryn J. DuFour Law Library is committed to providing free public access to government information for its primary patrons and the general public. The library was designated a Selective U.S.. Federal Depository Library in 1979 and collects about 12% of the materials available through the Federal Depository Program. Proquest Congressional is currently the best source for locating Congressional hearings and reports found in the library microform collection.
The Congressional Holdings Timeline lists the years and formats available for Congressional Hearings (both published and unpublished), and the United States Serial Set online and in microform.
With the exception of some 1984-2000 agency materials, all non-Congressional government documents in the library's print and microform collections can be found in the Columbo Online Catalog. The catalog also contains links to many government documents available online.
The Government Information Online (GIO) service is provided by Government Printing Office (GPO) and Federal Depository Libraries around the country. This free service will gives you an opportunity to ask librarians questions about government resources.
The collection focuses on federal materials, but also includes state materials for Maryland, Virginia, and the District of Columbia. Much of the collection exists on microfiche. For a full listing of microfiche holdings and their location, see the Microfiche Finding Aid.
Most government documents in print are shelved along with the general library collection, using Library of Congress classification. Government documents on microfiche, including most Congressional materials, and a very small number of print items, are classified using SuDoc Classification and shelved in or near the Government Documents/Microforms Reading Room.

A number of government documents received through the Federal Depository Library Program, especially Census data, are housed at Mullen Library, the main library at The Catholic University of America. The Regional Depository library for the area is the University of Maryland's McKeldin Library in College Park, As a regional depository, the McKeldin Library receives all the government documents available in the Depository Library Program. Members of the public are welcome to use the US Federal Library Depository Program collection in the Kathryn J. DuFour Law Library during regular operating hours, in accordance with with the library's Access policy, Rules for library use and Visitor guidelines.
The Government Documents/Microforms Reading Room, Room 330 on the 2nd floor of the library, houses various indexes and guides to locating government documents, along with microform reader/printers available for use by the public. Photocopying machines are available nearby. There is a charge per page for photocopies.
The Reading Room also houses a computer designated for public use to access government information available online. From there, library visitors can also use a variety of paid online databases for locating legal and government information.
Please note: the public workstation does not permit general internet access (such as .com sites). There is a time limit of 20 minutes per person, especially when others are waiting.
