About the LL.M. Program

The Columbus School of Law of The Catholic University of America and the Faculty of Law and Administration of the Jagiellonian University offer a course of studies leading to the LL.M. degree.

What is an LL.M.?

The LL.M. is an internationally-recognized professional and academic postgraduate law degree. The CUA LL.M. can be obtained through courses taken in a seven-week summer session in Krakow, Poland, a series of one and two-week courses offered in the following academic year, and a seven-week summer session at Catholic University in Washington, D.C.

The Catholic University of America (CUA) was established in 1889 by the Catholic Bishops of the United States with the approval of Pope Leo XIII. CUA Law School is only a short METRO ride from the city center, the U.S. Capitol, the White House, the U.S. Supreme Court, the Library of Congress, and the many executive and administrative agencies of the U.S. government. Washington and the surrounding areas in Maryland and Virginia are also home to many prominent law firms, trade and professional associations, internationally renowned "think tanks," and non-governmental organizations.

The Jagiellonian University (JU) was established in 1364 in Krakow by King Kazimierz the Great. Copernicus and Pope John Paul II pursued their studies here. The Law Faculty has existed at the JU since the University’s founding. For the past several years, JU has held first place as the best Polish law school in most rankings issued by independent institutions.

The JU Center for Foreign Law Programs coordinates German, French, Ukrainian and Austrian projects at the Jagiellonian University as well. It also operates a program on Polish law for foreign lawyers.

Krakow, recognized as Poland's academic capital, is known for its friendly atmosphere for students. Over 150,000 Polish and foreign students study in Krakow each year. Krakow is considered one of the most beautiful cities of Central Europe. With its beautiful historic center, the city is on UNESCO's World Culture and Heritage List.

The LL.M program at the JU is coordinated by Gaspar Kot and Katarzyna Stryjniak. The office of the Center in Krakow is managed by Julianna Kobierzynska and Malgorzata Wokal.
