- Loan Repayment Assistance Program-

Updated 09/2008

Recent graduates of Columbus School of Law in the field of Public Interest Work are invited to apply for the 2008-2009 LRAP Award. The amount of the award will be approximately $4,000 per year for five years, which will be distributed in two disbursements each year, one in December and one in May. The first disbursement will be in December 2008.

Applicants should be aware of the basic structure of this program. The award is considered a "loan", which becomes a grant on an incremental basis over the five-year period. For example, if the recipient, after two years of employment, leaves the public interest field, the remaining disbursements will be cancelled, and a prorated amount of the disbursements received will be considered a loan and must be repaid to CUA over a five year period. Similarly, if the recipient remains employed in a public interest position for the full five year, no repayment is required.

The recipient will be chosen based on primarily two factors:

1. How clearly the employment meets the concept of "public interest" work, and

2. The amount of debt relative to income

A selection committee will be chosen by the LRAP Steering Committee, to review the final applications using an objective process.

PRE-APPLICATION DEADLINE is OCT 15, 2008.

To Apply, download the LRAP Pre-Application Form (Adobe Acrobat Reader is required) and mail, email, or fax it to the LRAP Selection Committee by Oct. 15th, 2008.
