The DC Bar Fountaion is a non-profit, tax exempt charitable organizartion that supports legal service providers in the Disirtict of Columbia. The Foundation's Loan Repayment Assistance Program (Foundation LRAP) was established in 2006 for lawyers employed in the District of Columbia in non-profit tax exempt charitable organizations serving the legal needs of low-income or underrepresented individuals. The twin goals of the program are to help out poverty lawyers in the District of Columbia who have incurred significant debt, and, at the same time, increase the number of experienced, skilled lawyers working in legal services in the District of Columbia.

The Bar Foundation also implements a loan repayment assistance program under the DC poverty Lawyer Loan Assistanct Repayment Program Act of 2006, DC Act 16-512 ("DC Poverty Lawyer LRAP"). A consolidated application process has been established that allows the Bar Foundation to accept and consider all applications for both programs.

The program is designed to pay up to $1,000 per participant per month, for eligible loans, up to a lifetime cap of $60,000. The actual amount you would receive depends on (a) your monthly debt service, (b) the purpose of the loans, (c) whether you qualify for DC LRAP or Foundation LRAP or both, (d) the total amount available under the relevant funding stream each year, (e) the total number of eligible participants, and (f) the discretion of the LRAP Award Committee based on the infromation before it at the time decisions are made. You must begin qualified employment no later than February 1, 2009

APPLICATION DEADLINE is Nov 3rd, 2008.

To Apply, download the DC LRAP Application Form (Adobe Acrobat Reader is required) and mail it to the DC Bar Foundation Award Selection Committee by Nov. 3rd, 2008. (DC Bar Foundation, LRAP, 2000 P Street NW, Suite 530, Washington, DC 20036)
