Inspiring and Guiding the Next Generation of Lawyers
The Columbus School of Law at The Catholic University of America is proud to introduce the CUA Law Advantage Mentoring Program. The program connects CUA law students with graduates who will act as a source of assistance and counsel throughout their law school experience. Mentors share general or expert knowledge, provide real-world insight into the practice of law, guide you in defining and embracing your role as a future lawyer, and serve as role models in dealing with clients, colleagues, the courts, and the community.
How it Works
You are matched with an Alumni mentor, taking into consideration practice area and geographical preference. Your mentor will connect with you soon after you have been matched. Your mentor will remain committed to you throughout the duration of your time at CUA Law.
To sign up for a mentor, simply complete the form linked below. If you have questions, please contact the Office of Alumni Relations (202) 319-5010 or email@example.com.
Alumni volunteer mentors are matched with students taking into consideration practice area, geographical preference, undergraduate institution, or other like interests or affiliations. Mentors are asked to connect with student mentees in person (if feasible), soon after the student’s acceptance to the law school, before the start of the academic year. Mentors are expected to contact mentees at least once during the fall semester and twice during the spring semester, either in person or by phone or electronic communication. Mentors remain committed to mentees throughout the duration of the student’s time at CUA Law. After the first year mentoring relationship develops, mentors and mentees are encouraged to structure the relationship with the flexibility needed to meet the demands of each other’s schedules, yet remaining committed to assisting and guiding students as necessary.
Alumni Advisors work with the Office of Career and Professional Development to advise students about practice areas, conduct mock interviews, discuss clerkships, etc. Interactions with students can be by phone or in person and normally require a commitment of no more than one-half hour on an as-needed basis.
