CREATING A NETWORK

Students are encouraged to expand their network with members of the communications bar through participation in the Federal Communications Bar Association's (FCBA) law student division. For a nominal fee, Institute

students may join the Young Lawyer's Committee, participate in the committee's social and educational activities, receive the FCBA's newsletter, be listed in its annual directory, and attend many of the association's professional and social activities. Institute alumni played a significant role in establishing student membership within the FCBA.

The institute affords opportunities to meet and network with alumni and prominent members of the communications bar at various law school events throughout the year.

Interaction with institute alumni provides students with an invaluable network, leading to externship and future employment opportunities. Institute alumni can be found working in a broad array of prestigious firms and organizations, including:

Richard E. Wiley

Partner, Wiley Rein & Fielding

Former Chairman, FCC

"Both at the FCC and during my years as partner at Wiley Rein & Fielding, I have been privileged to associate with many outstanding graduates of the Institute for Communications Law Studies. Whether as staff attorneys or student externs, they arrive well-trained, motivated and ready to work hard on behalf of public interest. I hope that the telecommunications industry will always be a magnet for Catholic University's law graduates. They contribute greatly to this vital field, and I am pleased to call them colleagues and friends."

Greg Haledjian is a former president of the Communications Law Institute Alumni Association (CLIAA). He is with the firm of Shulman Rogers Gandal Pordy & Ecker, PA in Rockville, Md.

"The 300+ graduates from CUA Law practicing communications and media law are dedicated to ensuring the continued success of the Communications Law Institute. We believe that there would not be such a strong presence of CUA lawyers in the communications bar without the unique legal training and networking opportunities that are only available in this program."

The CLIAA is a not-for-profit organization of alumni of the Institute for Communications Law Studies ("Institute") and the Catholic University of America, Columbus School of Law ("CUA"), which was established in 2003 to:

(2) serve as a dynamic resource for the Institute;

(3) facilitate networking opportunities among its members;

(4) mentor current and prospective Institute students; and

(5) serve as a resource for information about telecommunications and media law.

Qualifications for Membership

Any person who is either: (1) a law school alumnus of the Institute or (2) a law school alumnus of CUA who is involved in the development, interpretation, implementation and practice of communications law and policy may become a CLIAA member.
