Name: Emily Shinogle, 3L
Home state: Illinois
Under graduate institution: University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign
My favorite thing about CUA:
The comradery at CUA Law among the student body and the faculty is something not short of amazing. I love how available my professors are and the amount of trust in the student body. My first semester 1L year my computer crashed the week before finals. I called one of my good friends and within hours, other students had heard about my dilemma and were sending me notes and outlines so I could still be prepared for finals. This is an act that you would not see at other schools which is what separates CUA from other schools.
Why I chose CUA:
I chose CUA based on its location in Washington, DC. I wanted to move here for my law career as my hometown does not support my legal interests in National Security Law. This was the biggest factor but the small class sizes and dedication to each student's success.
What do you plan on doing after you graduate:
After I graduate, I plan to work for the government and then move into a contracting agency working in homeland security.
What do you most enjoy about studying law in Washington, D.C.:
I enjoy studying law in Washington, D.C. because of the immense amount of opportunities to intern and network. After you graduate, you will have an incredible alumni network as well as the network that you built over your three years.
Student organization and activities:
For 2014-2015, I will be Co-Dean of Delta Theta Phi which is one of the two law fraternities at CUA. I am also the Head Representative for Kaplan Bar Review and Secretary for Republican National Lawyers Association. I am also an active member of Students for Public Interest Law.
