The rationale of this course is to provide an overview of the political and legal framework of the European Union’s institutions, trade relations, and legal and business implications of the European process of integration. The focus will be on the process of the creation of the European Union, goals and purposes of the union, the structural framework and processes for the development of European Union’s law, constitutional issues, the role of the European Court of Justice, East-West trade, and United States trade within the European Union. If the instructor allows papers in lieu of examinations, this course may include a qualifying course paper that fulfills one half of the upper level writing requirement.
