Jennifer Tschirch, the coordinator of pro bono activities for The Catholic University of America’s Columbus School of Law, has been elected to the Board of Directors of the Washington Council of Lawyers. Tschirch is among three new board members and will officially assume her duties in September, 2012.
Located in the nation’s capital, the Washington Council of Lawyers is a voluntary bar association established to promote the practice of pro bono and public interest law. Its membership includes lawyers, legal professionals, law students and others committed to advancing issues important to the public interest community in the Washington D.C. metropolitan area. The Council offers a range of programs throughout the year, from substantive law and skills trainings to a Mentoring Program and networking events.
“In many ways, participation on the Council’s board will be an extension of what I am working toward at the law school,” Tschirch said. “A primary goal of Catholic University’s pro bono program is to instill in our students a lifelong professional commitment to pro bono work. Serving as a director presents a wonderful opportunity for me to join a dedicated group of advocates committed to expanding access to justice through pro bono engagement, education and collaboration.”
Service on the board of directors is a voluntary, one-year appointment. Among other duties, board members engage others in the public interest and pro bono communities on joint advocacy initiatives and collaborative programming.
Prior to joining the law school staff, Jen was a Senior Program Manager at Equal Justice Works and an attorney at Greater Boston Legal Services.
