Catholic University law professor Catherine Klein was a keynote speaker at the 10th International Conference of Clinical Legal Education, held in Durham, England, July 10 to 13. The conference was sponsored by the University of Northumbria in cooperation with the Clinical Legal Education Organization (CLEO).
Klein is the director of Catholic University’s Columbus Community Legal Services (CCLS). Together with Professor Paula Galowitz of New York University, Klein co-presented “Teaching Students to Minimize Vicarious Trauma and Manage Stress Effectively: An International Perspective.”
A hallmark of the plenary presentation was a demonstration of multiple teaching methodologies including using brief lectures, video with specific questions to consider, small group discussions, large group synthesis, and individual and group reflection.
The conference had more than 180 participants from around the world, including the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom and other countries in Western, Central and Eastern Europe, various countries in Africa, South and South East Asia, and the Middle East.
