CUA Students Slug It Out for Charity

Two Catholic University law school teams spent April 10 - 11 in Charlottesville, VA, competing in the 27th annual University of Virginia Law School Invitational Softball Tournament. The UVA tournament brings together 120 teams made up from 60 law schools from around the nation. The event also raised more than $20,000 for local charities.
The Columbus School of Law teams were made up of players who competed in the fall season for the right to represent the school at the University of Virginia in the spring. The scholar-sluggers competed in the 72-team coed division and enjoyed great success.

The “Commissioners” team, captained by James Ollinger (3L), went 4-1 and advanced to the sweet-sixteen before losing to one of the UVA host teams. The "Public Offenders," captained by Ed Lafayette (3L) and the three-time CUA fall champions, advanced to the championship game before falling to Florida Coastal School of Law, finishing 7-1. The second place finish was the best showing ever for a CUA team in the UVA tournament.
