atholic University has always had a special place in my heart," says Margaret King. "I first came to CUA in elementary school, when my family lived for a brief time in D.C., to participate in a theatre program for local grammar school students. Who would have anticipated then, how much of my life would be engaged with CUA?"

Margaret A. King is delighted to be serving as Associate Dean for Institutional Advancement for CUA Law School. It has been a homecoming, since she received her undergraduate degree in Theatre from Catholic University in 1981. After graduating from CUA, King received her first taste of a career in higher education. She spent the next two years as a recruiter in the Admissions and Financial Aid office. In the mid 1980s King served as President of the CUA Alumni Chapter in New York City, until she relocated to San Diego, California in 1989. "While in California, I continued to be an alumni recruiter for the undergraduate school and kept in close contact with many of my CUA friends and colleagues," King said.

Before returning to Catholic University in June 2001, King spent eight years working in development and alumni relations at Columbia Law School in New York City - most recently as Executive Director of Development and Alumni Relations.

Most of King's career has been spent raising money for higher education on the east coast, with a five-year hiatus working for a Catholic Hospital (Mercy Hospital Foundation) in San Diego. She has also worked for Fordham University, Stevens Institute of Technology, and the New York Foundation for the Arts - Arts in Education Program. In addition, she is actively involved in many professional organizations including CASE, Association of Fundraising Professionals and Association of American Law Schools.

King, who was born and raised on the shore in Spring Lake, New Jersey, is the thirteenth child in a family of fifteen children, ten boys and five girls, and is the favorite aunt to 38 nieces and nephews.

She enjoys music, travel and long distance running and has run the

New York City Marathon twice; just missing out winning the race by an hour and a half!
"My transition to Washington has been fairly easy, with many friends and family members still in the D.C. metropolitan area. I have always loved Washington, D.C. and the Associate Dean position just seemed like a perfect match. I had an incredible experience as an undergraduate at CUA, and I welcomed the opportunity to give back in a substantial way, sharing my enthusiasm and hopefully having a positive impact on the School," says King. "CUA is a wonderful community of individuals who care about one another and care about the communities they serve. This mission of care has been consistent from my undergraduate days, which was what attracted me to the school more than two decades ago."

King hopes to expand the School of Law's alumni outreach via regional clubs, and by engaging in greater personal interaction with graduates and donors. "The stakes are high, the challenges are great, but I am confident that our alumni will respond to the call," King said.
