Columbus School of Law alumni who are employed with The Financial Industry Regulatory Authority (FINRA) had no further to travel than their own building for an alumni reunion on Feb. 28. Nearly 20 graduates turned out for the annual luncheon sponsored by Catholic University’s Securities Law Program, in cooperation with the law school’s offices of Development and Alumni Relations and Career and Professional Development. The event was held at FINRA’s headquarters in Rockville, Md.
FINRA is the largest independent regulator for all securities firms doing business in the United States— overseeing about 4,275 brokerage firms. Its mission is to protect America's investors by making sure the securities industry operates fairly and honestly. The organization has long shown a willingness to hire graduates of Catholic University Securities Law Program. Many have begun their careers there and approximately 30 CUA Law graduates are currently employed with FINRA.
Nineteen alumni attended the luncheon. Representing the law school were Dean Daniel F. Attridge, Professor David Lipton, director of the Securities Law Program, and several staff members. Professor Lipton handled the program welcome and introductions.
For the alumni guests, it was the first opportunity to hear from Dean Attridge, who assumed leadership of the law school on Feb. 1. The dean spoke of his vision and priorities for the Columbus School of Law, and asked the group for its continuing support in the future. Most of the CUA Law alumni at FINRA are graduates of the certificate program in securities law.
“Each year this luncheon helps to renew the personal and professional bonds between our graduates, both with each other and with the law school,” said Professor Lipton. “I am so proud of what these exceptional practitioners represent: ethics, integrity, and commitment brought to bear on the vitally important task of ensuring fair play and transparency in the securities field.”
