Students were reminded yet again of the vast range of career options open to holders of a JD degree at the Fall 2013 Externship Fair, held in the law school’s atrium on Oct. 23.

More than 60 exhibitors— the highest number for any such fair so far—set up display tables and provided personnel to answer questions and collect résumés.

The exhibitors represented a wide array of different areas of legal practice, encompassing the public and private sector, government and federal agencies, and many levels of court systems, among other opportunities.

Held each spring and fall, The Columbus School of Law’s long-running externship event is one of the largest of its kind in the area. It offers students the chance to meet with potential employers and secure valuable externships that provide class credit, real life experience, and not infrequently, an offer of employment upon graduation.

“A very large number of students find positions through the fair, but in addition, we know that the students’ participation in the fair broadens their horizons,” said Professor Lisa Lerman, who oversees the event for the law school.

Many of tables were staffed by CUA Law alumni (listed below) who were encouraged to return and share the attributes of their employers with current students.

Each table also offered a brief description of the organization. Students were advised to do their homework in advance and have familiarity with the organization so that the exhibitor did not have to repeat basic information for every visitor to his or her table.
