Board of Visitors Member Michael F. Curtin
Recognized with Catholic Service Award

Michael F. Curtin, a 1965 alumnus of the Columbus School of Law and a member and former chair of the law school’s Board of Visitors, was recognized with the Father John O'Connor Empowerment Award on Oct. 28 by the Catholic Charities Caritas Awards Mass at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in downtown Washington, D.C.

This latest award is one of many that Curtin has received throughout his career for his unswerving dedication to pro bono service to others. Curtin served on the Catholic Charities Foundation board for nine years, including a two-year term as chair.

He was among four people recognized in 2012 as “a few of our most extraordinary volunteers whose efforts have had a tremendous impact on Catholic Charities' ministry to the most vulnerable members of our community,” according to the program.

Catholic Charities bills the annual Caritas Mass and Awards as a way to thank its volunteers for their enormous contributions of time and talent.

Mike Curtin is among Washington, D.C.’s best known lawyers in probate law, estate planning, and trust and estate litigation. He has been listed for the last twenty-five years in "The Best Lawyers in America" and is annually listed in the Washingtonian Magazine as among Washington's Top Lawyers.

Curtin’s record of volunteerism and pro bono service is equally impressive. Highlights include many years of service through Catholic Charities, Legal Counsel for the Elderly, and So Others Might Eat (SOME), a private, non-profit organization that exists to help the poor and homeless of our nation's capital.

Curtin has also served the law school in numerous capacities. In 2008, the Columbus School of Law established the Michael F. Curtin Pro Bono Award "in recognition of his more than 40 years of leadership and selfless dedication to Catholic University's law school and the legal profession.”
