Dean Veryl Miles is Elected to American Law Institute

Veryl V. Miles, dean of the Columbus School of Law at The Catholic University of America, has been elected to the American Law Institute, the leading independent organization in the United States producing scholarly work to clarify, modernize and otherwise improve the law.

Made up of over 4,300 lawyers, judges, and law professors of the highest qualifications, the Philadelphia-based institute drafts, discusses, revises, and publishes Restatements of the Law, model statutes, and principles of law that are enormously influential in the courts and legislatures, as well as in legal scholarship and education. ALI has long been influential internationally and, in recent years, more of its work has become international in scope.

By participating in the institute’s work, members have the opportunity to influence the development of the law in both existing and emerging areas, to work with other eminent lawyers, judges, and academics, to give back to a profession to which they are deeply dedicated, and to contribute to the public good.

Miles was among 44 newly elected members, who were announced in January, 2011.

“I am delighted to welcome these distinguished and talented new members to The American Law Institute,” said ALI President Roberta Cooper Ramo. “From its very beginning in 1923, the institute has been dedicated to clarifying and improving the law. Our mission of law reform continues to be vitally important in view of the challenging problems our country faces today.  I look forward to the new energies and insights our newest members will bring to our law reform activities.”
